What Is Pokémon? A brief Information.
Pokémon is a Japanese media franchise that is run by the Pokémon Company. It is also classified as Pocket Monsters in Japan. Satoshi Tajiri started this franchise in 1995, which was based on fictional creatures called “Pokémon” Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures are entitled to the equal shares of the company. These three companies share even the copyright of the franchise and Japanese trademark.
History of Pokémon
Pokémon was the brainchild of Satoshi Tajiri. He is fond of small insects. When Satoshi was a child, he used to catch small insects and tadpoles near his home, located in Suburban, Tokyo. His fondness for catching insects inspired him to make it real. His only aim was to give children the same thrills as he used to feel like a child.
He went to his other friends, including his close mate Ken Sugimori with catching creatures. Ken Sugimori liked the concept and formed Game Freak. After working on a design, the studio was recognized as Creatures. After creating the Game Boy and the Game Boy Game Link Cable, he got an image of insects traveling along the wire.
The Ultraman fantasy television show, Ultra Seven, left a significant impact on his mind. In Ultra Seven, the protagonist practiced giant monsters that are kept inside small capsules to help him conquer. These two things inspired him to develop a new game, which was known as Capsule Monster later. He went to Nintendo to discuss the concept of this new game but failed. His idea was rejected several times by Nintendo. Then he took his friend’s help, whose name was Shigeru Miyamoto, and succeeded. After insistence, Nintendo was ready to fund this project. This game roughly took six years to develop fully. Then what happened next? You know very well. This game became very popular not only among the children but for people of all ages.
The original name of the game was Capsule Monster, but due to some trademarking issue, it was given a new name, called “Pocket Monsters. Tajiri’s friend did the original artwork for the games, while Junichi Masuda created the games’ sound effects.
This dream project cost a lot to Game Freak, and it was to the point of going bankrupt. The company’s financial condition became worse. As a result, five employees left the job, but that did not disappoint Tajiri. He worked day and night on this project. As a result of his hard work, the first Pokémon games, Pokémon Red and Green Versions were released in the Nintendo Game Boy system in Japan on February 27, 1996. And finally, Tajiri’s dream came true and allowed children, adults, and elders to catch, train, and trade 151 creatures and become a Pokémon Master
The Pokémon games witnessed modest sales at the initial level, but after discovering Mew in the games, the magazine named Coro Coro announced a “Legendary Pokémon Offer” to serve Mew to twenty entrants
This contest got a massive response from the audience and received 78,000 candidates, and all of a sudden, the Pokémon games witnessed a long jump in the sales. After bringing improvements in the graphics and sound, Pokémon Red and Green’s sales also increased.
